Best IPTV player for Apple TV (2026)

Every app here is a real tvOS app, not an AirPlay trick. We looked at what matters on a TV: whether there are ads, how you pay and whether the Apple TV version costs extra, how you enter a playlist without a keyboard, whether the EPG guide is usable with the remote, whether catch-up works, and where your playlist credentials end up.

None of these players include channels. You bring your own M3U playlist or Xtream Codes login from a provider, and the app is only the remote control.

Kanalo's Apple TV app arrived in September 2026 as part of the same universal download as the iPhone and iPad app. It is built for the Siri Remote: a top bar for Home, Channels, Movies, Series, Guide and Search, big tiles with a focus ring you can see from the sofa, and a guide with a channel column and a programme column instead of a scrolling timeline that fights the remote.

Getting a playlist on the TV is where it differs most from the others: choose 'From iPhone' on the Apple TV, scan the QR code with your iPhone and tick which playlists to send. Xtream logins go along, so you never type a password with the remote. Once paired, 'Play on Apple TV' on your iPhone starts a film, series or channel on the TV straight from your provider — no mirroring, and the iPhone can go back in your pocket.

The free app is complete for watching, with no ads. Pro adds Play on Apple TV, unlimited playlist refreshes and Family Sharing, and one purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. The honest downsides: the tvOS app is the youngest of the four, and Chromecast and offline downloads are iPhone and iPad features only.

iPlayTV has been on the Apple TV for years and is the reason many people bought it in the first place. It is a paid, ad-free player with M3U and Xtream support, an EPG and a tidy interface, and the purchase covers iPhone and Apple TV.

Playlists go in by typing or through an upload page in your browser. There is no way to try it before paying, and the interface feels its age next to the newer apps, but it is stable and unflashy.

Flex IPTV started on the Apple TV and it shows: the tvOS app is mature, the guide is solid and catch-up works with providers that support it. It is a separate paid app on tvOS; the iPhone version is free with ads and an in-app upgrade, so a household with an Apple TV and an iPhone pays twice.

Playlists are entered on the TV or uploaded through a web page. If you already use Flex on your Apple TV and are happy with it, there is little reason to move.

IPTVX is a paid, ad-free player for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV with a clean design and good M3U and Xtream support. It is closest in spirit to Kanalo and iPlayTV: no ads, no account, pay and watch.

Playlists go in by typing or via an upload page. Pick it if you prefer a single up-front purchase and like its look; Kanalo's advantages are the free tier, the QR transfer from the iPhone and the speed of the guide on very large playlists.

GSE Smart IPTV and IPTV Smarters Player Lite are the two players most providers recommend, and neither has a native tvOS app at the time of writing. On an Apple TV your options with them are AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad — which works, but keeps the phone busy and the stream on your Wi-Fi twice — or a different box altogether.

If your household is mixed between Apple TV and Android or Fire TV, those two are still the pragmatic choice, ads and all. If your screens are Apple, a native tvOS app is simply nicer to live with.

This is the step people underestimate. An M3U URL is long and an Xtream login has three fields, and typing them with the Siri Remote is miserable. The common workaround is an upload page: the app shows a web address on the TV, you open it on your phone or computer and paste the playlist there. It works, but the playlist passes through the app maker's server.

Kanalo's approach is a QR code: the TV shows it, your iPhone scans it, and the playlists you tick travel over your own Wi-Fi, encrypted with a key that only exists in that code. If the two devices cannot see each other, Kanalo asks permission before relaying through its server, and the content stays encrypted either way. iCloud can also bring over playlists you already use on your iPhone, minus the Xtream passwords.

There is no single best app, but there is usually a best app for your situation.

An IPTV player is only as legal as the playlist you load into it. All of the apps above are legitimate software; what you watch through them depends entirely on your provider. Use a service you are allowed to use in your country, and be suspicious of anyone selling 'all channels' for a few euros a month.
